Nike Uses Flyknit Technology to Erect the Aero-Static Dome
Floating above the centuries-old Palazzo Clerici, the massive metallic-colored structure remains anchored to the ground by Nike’s proprietary Flyknit material and nine glass capsules, each of them containing the aforementioned sneakers. While this installation pays tribute to strengths of the Flyknit technology, the unique overhead dome draws inspiration from the aerodynamics of Leonardo da Vinci’s triangular parachute, as well as Alexander Graham Bell’s tetrahedral kite.
